My personal Visual Cast of The Dante Chronicles: Consuelo Gutierrez

As I write, I envision certain actors in the parts to give voice to the dialogues. Consuelo Guttierez or Connie is again a very personalcharacter (as are all The Kindred) drawn from friends and family, so it was a matter of finding a spitfire Latina with the right look and sound. One late Friday night, while watching a late night talk show, I found her in Paulina Rubio.

Paulina Susana Rubio Dosamantes is a Mexican singer, actor, host, model and businessperson. Several years ago during a visit on said late night talk show, Rubio walked on the set in a sparkly fuchsia pink outfit with matching shoes, and proceeded to tell a story about a very large, very amorous fan rushing the stage while she was singing. Her English was very good, but apparently the more excited she gets, the more Spanglish she speaks, until it becomes so animated that its all Spanish and at about Mach 10. Way too fast for my limited vocabulary (I need lots of help with the little bits of Spanishin TDC. Gracias, Nena!). It was all very entertaining and cute, and the flustered host made up his own translation of what she was saying, and it just became silliness after that, but the outcome for me was that I found my Consuelo.

I am certain that you, the reader, saw someone else when you first read Connie…I encourage you to share your “vision” here and why. I am always interested to hear what images my writing brings to mind in my readers.
